Frequently Asked Questions

  • What's a typical portrait session?

If young children are involved, you can expect to be finished with the portrait within twenty minutes, as that’s usually the maximum time they’ll give.

After the images are captured, we will go over the necessary paperwork and make an appointment for you to come back to view them. Occasionally, there is time for you to see your portraits right away. Once your order has been placed, you can expect to see your finished portraits (typically) within two weeks. However, some products take a bit longer to produce.

With your permission, we can have your portraits available online for you to share with friends and family. This is a great way to show people who live elsewhere your portraits. The portraits may be ordered online, as well.

  • What should we wear?

Stay true to who you are and wear what you love. If you always wear jeans and t-shirts,  choose jeans and something a little nicer than a t-shirt. If you usually dressed more formal, then keep wearing that.  As a family, try to wear similar hues. You don't have to wear matching outfilts, but it's best for the photo if you don't clash. Simple outfits in solid colors show up the best. Dark colors are more slimming and long pants and long sleeve shirts usually photograph better than shorts and a t-shirt.

For newborns, keep it simple! Nakedness, diapers, and onesies are best. Soft blankets, big socks, and big, textured hats can really add to your photos. Make sure you apply baby lotion since newborns usually have flaky, dry skin the first couple of weeks.

For babies, try to keep it comfy and simple. Try to stay away from big dresses or suits. Have them wear clothes that they fit in at the time of the session, and try not to dress them in clothes that they still need to grow into.

  • Where should we take the photos?

If you have a special place, start there. Otherwise, come to our Bristol studio.  We have a lovely portrait studio and are located on Bristol's beautiful waterfront for outdoor photos.

  • When should we take our family portraits?

Children do better if they’re not tired, hungry, or cranky (you don’t need us to tell you this!). So, whatever time works best for them.  Have some snacks ready if a “bribe” is needed. If you need to take a break during the session, we can wait.
